Welcome to Champion Taekwondo in Bermuda, a distinguished martial arts academy committed to imparting the art and philosophy of Taekwondo. Our academy is under the esteemed leadership of Master Edmond Johnson, a 6th-degree black belt with over two decades of experience in martial arts instruction.

At Champion Taekwondo, we firmly uphold the belief that Taekwondo transcends being merely a sport; it is a way of life. Our overarching mission is to equip our students with the essential life skills required for success, both within the realm of Taekwondo and in their everyday lives. Our academy extends a warm welcome to individuals of all ages and proficiency levels, ranging from novice to advanced practitioners. Our cadre of experienced instructors works closely with each student, tailoring their instruction to meet individual goals. Tiger Tots Program (Ages 4 - 6)

This program introduces our youngest students to the world of Taekwondo in a fun and engaging environment. The curriculum focuses on basic motor skills, coordination, and foundational martial arts techniques. Sessions are designed to promote discipline, respect, and a positive group interaction, making them perfect for preschoolers starting their martial arts journey.

Little Tigers Program (Ages 6 – 10)

Designed for early school-age children, the Little Tigers Program builds on basic skills and introduces more structured Taekwondo techniques. Students learn forms, sparring basics, and self-defense in a supportive setting that emphasizes character development, discipline, and physical fitness. This program is ideal for children looking to grow in confidence and ability.

Big Cats Program (Ages 11 – 16)

Tailored for pre-teens and teenagers, this program challenges students with advanced techniques and a deeper exploration of Taekwondo's tactical aspects. The Big Cats curriculum includes intensive training in forms, sparring strategies, and self-defense. It focuses on physical conditioning, leadership skills, and preparing students for competitive Taekwondo, if they choose to pursue it.

Adult Taekwondo (Ages 17 and up)

Our Adult Taekwondo class is open to participants from beginners to advanced practitioners. It offers a comprehensive approach to physical fitness, self-defense, and technique refinement. Adults in this program benefit from stress relief, improved fitness, and the mental discipline Taekwondo provides. Classes are paced to challenge each individual appropriately, fostering a community of mutual respect and perseverance.

Competitive Taekwondo Team

For those looking to test their skills in a competitive arena, our Competitive Taekwondo Team provides rigorous training and preparation for local, national, and international tournaments. Emphasizing strategy, advanced techniques, and peak physical conditioning, this program is perfect for dedicated practitioners who thrive in a competitive setting.

Self-Defense Workshops

Our self-defense workshops are open to all ages and focus on practical techniques that students can apply in real-life scenarios to defend themselves effectively. These workshops combine Taekwondo techniques with general self-defense strategies, emphasizing situational awareness and quick thinking.

CURRICULUM

THE CHAMPION CURRICULUM

Our specialized curriculum focuses on four key aspects of Taekwondo:  Poomsae (forms), Hoshinsul (self-defense), Kyorugi (sparring), and Kyopka (breaking techniques). This comprehensive program ensures that students develop a deep understanding and mastery of each component, allowing them to excel in the art of Taekwondo.

Poomsae (Forms)

  • Learning and mastering basic to advanced forms (Taegeuk and Black Belt Poomsae)

  • Emphasis on proper stances, body posture, and alignment

  • Development of fluidity, balance, and coordination in executing forms

  • Breathing techniques for optimal power and focus

  • Understanding the practical applications of each form

  • Opportunities to participate in Poomsae competitions and demonstrations

Hoshinsul (Self-Defense)

  • Training in practical self-defense techniques against various types of attacks (grabs, holds, strikes, and kicks)

  • Utilization of joint locks, throws, and pressure points

  • Development of situational awareness and quick decision-making skills

  • Learning to control and neutralize opponents effectively and safely

  • Understanding the principles of self-defense within the context of Taekwondo

  • Emphasis on responsible use of martial arts skills for personal protection

Kyorugi (Sparring)

  • Introduction to basic sparring techniques and strategies

  • Development of offensive and defensive skills (kicks, punches, blocks, and footwork)

  • Focus on proper timing, distance, and accuracy in executing techniques

  • Enhancing speed, agility, and stamina for competitive sparring

  • Learning and adhering to competition rules and regulations

  • Opportunities to participate in local, regional, and national sparring tournaments

Kyopka (Breaking Techniques)

  • Introduction to basic and advanced breaking techniques

  • Development of proper striking methods using hands, feet, elbows, and knees

  • Focus on accuracy, timing, and power generation for successful breaks

  • Learning to use appropriate materials for breaking practice (wooden boards, bricks, or tiles)

  • Understanding the mental and physical principles behind breaking techniques

  • Opportunities to participate in breaking competitions and demonstrations

 

Our Poomsae, Hoshinsul, Kyorugi, and Kyopka curriculum is designed to provide students with a well-rounded and in-depth understanding of Taekwondo's core components. Through this structured training, students will develop the skills, confidence, and discipline necessary to excel in the art of Taekwondo and become successful martial artists.
